Summer season

Our summer program commences at the start of Term 4 each year and generally runs through until early March.

The weekly competition is held on Saturday mornings at the athletics track on North Rd, Albany, and runs from 8:30am until about 11am.

Athletes are grouped according to age and do a range of running, jumping and throwing events each week. The events are modified depending on the age of the athletes – for example, U8 athletes throw a vortex, U11 athletes throw a turbo javelin, and U15 athletes throw a javelin. Event modifications align with Athletics West specifications.

For the first three weeks, we offer a modified program with fewer events to give new athletes a chance to learn and practice the skills involved in field events. After that, we revert to a two-week rotation with more events each Saturday morning.

What to expect on Saturday mornings

  • Warm-up commences at 8:30am.
  • Little and Junior Athletes compete in their age groups.
  • Four (4) parent volunteers are required to help each age group. No prior experience in athletics is required.
  • Athletes receive points for each event they compete in. These points accumulate and go towards our Centre Championships medals, which are awarded at the end of the season. Participation is key to accumulating as many points as possible, and we encourage athletes to do all events.
  • Every week, different age groups are on setup duty. Check the calendar at the end of this doc, and watch out on Facebook/email for when it’s your turn. If you’re on duty, please arrive arrive by 8am to help us get everything ready.
  • In the event that inclement weather makes it unsafe to compete, the competition will be cancelled. This decision is made at 8.00am on the Saturday morning, and communicated via Facebook and email.
  • It is a club requirement that each athlete has one parent/carer in attendance to supervise their children.
